Paddling trip to the beach paradises of Kvitvær and Sandvær
Summary standard four-day tour Thursday-Sunday:
The trip starts at Onøy. From here we go to our set up base and your place of residence for the coming days. We eat breakfast, get to know each other and plan Thursday's afternoon trip.
During the days we paddle between the beautiful islands of Sandvær, Kvitvær, Onøy, Røssøya, Sørvær and Lurøy. The area has a rich history both in terms of fisheries, fish farming and war history. The animal and bird life is exciting, the beaches are chalk white and the view absolutely spectacular.
On Thursday we paddle to one of these beautiful beaches on Onøy, put on our shoes and familiarize ourselves with the story of the local resistance man John Kristoffersen's escape from the enemy during the Second World War. After a nice walk, we have dinner before the evening is rounded off.
On Friday we visit the rest of Røssøya and Bukkøya in kayaks before paddling over to Olavika on Lurøy. From here we take out our hiking boots and climb the mighty Lurøyfjellet. A nice hike, but the view from the top is absolutely outstanding. From here you can see the Lofoten Wall to the north, Torghatten to the south, Svartisen to the east and Træna and the Great Sea to the west. An absolute highlight on clear days. After burning a lot of energy, we return to the base and have something to eat before closing our eyes and dreaming about tomorrow's trip.
On Saturday we paddle to our own favorite islands Kvitvær and Sandvær. Undisturbed sandy beaches as far as the eye can see. A background consisting of pointed mountains in all directions. Crystal clear water and an absolutely indescribable calm. We take our time for longer breaks on both islands and enjoy ourselves in and on the water all day. Once back at the base, it is once again dinner and sleep.
Sunday is the return day, but we make sure to take one last trip with us after breakfast. The view towards Hestmannen and the chalk-white beaches on Køtterøya is too beautiful to be left out. After a nice paddle in sheltered waters and breakfast on a quiet beach, we paddle back to our base for the return of equipment and the last leg to the ferry terminal on Onøy. A long weekend full of nature experiences in a safe and pleasant setting!
